Houston Symphony outdoor concert (Disney)
The Houston Symphony performs at various outdoor locations, like a recent Disney concert we attended in the Woodlands which is about 30 minutes away from where we live. We set a blanket out on a grassy hill looking down on the stage and tent covered seating. The performance went into the night, but unlike Utah or Idaho, the temperature didn’t drop. When we left near 10:00pm, it was still in the high 80s.
George’s first day of school cookie
Rachel has a tradition of making the kids a HUGE cookie on their first day of all-day school. The girls had to wait until first grade, but since George is in all-day kindergarten (that’s all they have in Texas), he got his this year.
San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site (obelisk)
Right across from the Battleship Texas is an enormous obelisk (570 feet tall). We went over and looked at the museum and then rode the elevator to the top to look at the Houston landscape.
Battleship Texas pictures
For George’s birthday we went to the Battleship Texas:

We were allowed to go on most decks and play on the gun turrets. It was a lot of fun!
Sam Houston boat tour
There is a lot of commerce that comes in and out of Houston’s ports. The Port authority offers free boat tours, so we made reservations and went with Rachel’s good friend Lexye and her family. It was fun to see the enormous ships, cranes and how they all tie in to train, freight and factories right on the water.

A trip to the (Lego) Zoo
George got a mega pack of Lego’s for his 6th birthday. Today he and Lydia built this amazing zoo complete with animals, spectators and jets. And of course there was a super slick spy car to go along with it all.
